Former Yankees outfielder Raul Mondesi was sentenced to eight years in prison on Wednesday for corruption he took part in while mayor of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic.

Mondesi, who was mayor of San Cristobal from 2010 to 2016, was also fined 60 million pesos for the corruption, according to a report.

During the 2010 election, he ran as part of the Dominican Liberation Party but later switched sides and joined the Dominican Revolutionary Party.

Mondesi was the NL Rookie of the Year in 1994 with the Dodgers and a year later made his only All-Star Game appearance.

He was traded from the Blue Jays to the Yankees in 2002 and was moved to the Diamondbacks just a season later.
