Head of Kyrgyz Customs Service detained on suspicion of corruption

Employees of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) have detained head of the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan Adilet Kubanychbekov. He is suspected of corruption.

News agency РИА Новости reports.

Earlier, law enforcement agencies received information about «large-scale corruption in the Customs Service, in which the management and heads of structural divisions are involved». According to the investigation, the information proves that the leadership of the Service lobbied for the interests of business companies importing goods. Preferential conditions are created for entrepreneurs, and customs clearance is carried out with a gross violation of the law. Also, the leadership contributed to the shelter of goods from the customs administration for the systematic receipt of bribes.

The head of the Customs Service may also be involved in the unreasonable overestimation of the cost of customs services for foreign economic activity entities provided by affiliated companies.

A criminal case has been initiated under article 336 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (Corruption).

– As part of the case, on suspicion of committing this crime, the chairman of the Customs Service under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Adilet Kubanychbekov, was detained and placed in the temporary detention facility, – press center of the SCNS said.
