Head of Kyrgyz president’s press service detained for bribe extortion

Head of the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan Nurgazy Anarkulov was detained on suspicion of extortion of a bribe on an especially large scale from a candidate for one of the leading government positions.

The press center of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported.

Anarkulov served as head of the information policy department of the presidential executive office of Kyrgyzstan since October 30 last year.

The press service noted that the facts of extortion of money have become more frequent in the country under the pretext of obtaining approval from the country’s top leadership on personnel appointments.

Anarkulov was detained within the ongoing work to identify, prevent and suppress corruption-related crimes in government bodies.

The former official was detained and taken to the detention facility of the SCNS.

Nurkamal Askanova has replaced Anarkulov.
