Saudi royal guard officers arrested in tender fraud case

Saudi Arabian authorities have arrested three royal guard officers after  for awarding tenders tenders totaling more than $ 100 million to companies belonging to them and their acquaintances.

Among those arrested: a retired major general, colonel and lieutenant colonel who worked in the department of contracts and procurement. In addition to them, law enforcement officers detained 21 businessmen in this case.

– The officers were arrested for awarding tenders to companies belonging to them and their acquaintances, which violates the government procurement and tenders law, – the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) said in a statement.

The defendants also used their relatives to obtain money and purchase real estate inside and outside the Kingdom with the aim of not disclosing the sources of those sums.

At the moment, law enforcement officers have confiscated $ 106 million from those arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

The authority said it would continue to pursue anyone who exploits the public office to achieve personal gain or harm the public interest in any way possible.
