Earlier, Nawaz Sharif, accompanied with his daughter Maryam Nawaz, flew to Islamabad airport from Lahore. He reached the Federal Judicial Academy from the airport. Former PM’s squad and Islamabad mayor reached the airport to escort them to the court.
After the court adjourned hearing till 1pm until the Islamabad High Court gives ruling on clubbing the corruption references, Nawaz Sharif reached Punjab house. Judge Muhammed Bashir ordered that copy of High Court ruling should be faxed as soon as the court gives its verdict.
As today’s proceedings began, Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Harris said the IHC will announce its verdict on their plea to club the three corruption references against Sharif family.
He pleaded the court to adjourn the hearing until the high court’s decision.
Several leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) arrived at the Accountability Court to welcome Nawaz Sharif.
It is pertinent to note here that Nawaz Sharif is involved in references regarding Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment; however, his daughter and her husband are named in reference regarding Avenfield properties alone.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed three references against Sharif family members related to the Avenfield property, Flagship Investment, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Offshore companies in compliance with the Supreme Court orders in Panama Papers case.
The NAB court yesterday adjourned the hearing of Al-Aziza reference against Nawaz Sharif till Tuesday due to Faizabad sit-in.
According to sources, the statement of NAB prosecutor‘s witness Malik Tayyab will be recorded in Al-Aziza reference. Meantime, two witnesses of the prosecution –Mukhtar and Umar Daraz, will give their statements in Avenfield properties and Flagship Investment references.
Mukhtar and Umar Daraz belong to Punjab police. Both of them reached the courtroom before anyone else.
Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir will also hear Maryam Nawaz’s plea seeking to change exemption dates from December 5 to January 5, 2018 and Nawaz Sharif’s plea seeking exemption from appearance for one week.
Nawaz Sharif and his daughter had filed applications before the court seeking changing their exemption from appearance in the court period as they wanted to visit Kulsoom Nawaz, who was under medical treatment in London.
