A deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Servant of the People faction was detained while receiving a bribe in the amount of 85 thousand dollars.
The Ukrayinska Pravda agency reports that the case concerns Anatoliy Gunko.
According to investigators, the official received a bribe from a businessman in exchange for providing him with state land plots from the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine for cultivation.
The deputy and the businessman were detained by the Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The suspects face up to 12 years in prison.
Earlier, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Georgiy Logvinsky was put on the wanted list because of the deception of the European Court of Human Rights. From 2013 to 2016, he stole funds from the state budget.
Also in August, law enforcement agencies of Ukraine completed the investigation of a criminal case on the illegal seizure of real estate in Odessa. Among the defendants in the case was the mayor of the city Gennady Trukhanov. In total, 16 people are involved in the case.
