The former President of the Guatemalan Congress, Luis Rabbe<\/a>, who has been on the run since August 2016 because of allegations of abuse of power and misappropriation of public funds, was arrested by Interpol in Monterrey (Northern Mexico).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ex-Deputy Luis Rabbe Tejada was detained by Interpol in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. This was due to the existing request for detention for the purpose of extradition, formulated by the Guatemalan Prosecutor’s office, Elpais reports.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\t\t

Rabbe is accused of involvement in the corruption scheme, which in 2014 and 2015 was attended by about 65 people, including deputies, former deputies and individuals who occupied fictitious jobs.<\/p>\n

The staff of the criminal investigation Agency (AIC) in Monterrey<\/a>, Nuevo Leon, carried out the order of temporary detention for the international extradition of Luis Rabbe at the request of the government of the Republic of Guatemala in accordance with the Treaty on this issue signed between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Rabbe has been on the run since August 2016. He headed the Guatemalan unicameral Parliament in 2015-2016. At the end of August 2016, the Deputy left the country, two days before the Supreme court (CSJ) removed the immunity from the Deputy. On 5 September of the same year, the court ordered his arrest. It was believed at that time, the Deputy was in Nicaragua.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
