{"id":1630,"date":"2017-07-05T14:00:21","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T11:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anticorr.media\/?p=1630"},"modified":"2018-07-24T18:44:27","modified_gmt":"2018-07-24T15:44:27","slug":"ibragim-magu-korrupciya-pervoprichina-separatizma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorr.media\/en\/ibragim-magu-korrupciya-pervoprichina-separatizma\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption is the root cause of separatist agitations \u2013 Magu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The acting Chairman of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economic_and_Financial_Crimes_Commission\">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission<\/a>, EFCC, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ibrahim_Lamorde\">Ibrahim Magu<\/a>, has identified corruption as the root cause of separatist agitations and militancy in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement that Mr. Magu made the remarks at the opening session of a two-day Electronic and Social Media Review and Training Conference held at the EFCC Academy in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Abuja\">Abuja<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Magu was quoted as saying \u201cpeople would not be engaging in needless agitations if the country was corruption-free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC boss also said that Nigeria\u2019s unity was one that could not be compromised, and urged participants at the conference to step up public sensitisation on the ills of corruption.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cwe can change the negative perception of this country. I urge you all to be committed in this fight using your various platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe root cause of the hate speeches by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arewa\">Arewa<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Igbo_people\">Igbo<\/a> youths is corruption. Some people are actually funding them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe looters of our common wealth are the ones responsible for the woes bedevilling Nigeria. We must do everything possible to secure the unity of this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who don\u2019t deserve anything are taking everything and if there is no common consensus to halt the trend, the future of our children yet unborn will be mortgaged.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Magu urged the participants to take a critical look at the social media platforms of EFCC and come up with suggestions on how to make them better.<\/p>\n<p>In a presentation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/drjoeabah\/?ppe=1\">Joe Abah<\/a>, the Director-General of <a href=\"http:\/\/bpsr.gov.ng\/\">the Bureau for Public Service Reforms<\/a>, commended the EFCC, describing it as the leading anti-graft agency in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Abbah said \u201cEFCC deserves a lot of credit. You are doing a great job. Your work is what we all need you to do but many of us don\u2019t want you to do the work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEFCC is clearly charting a new path for social media engagement for the anti-graft agencies looking at its statistics on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Google+, and Instagram.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stressed the need for all anti-graft agencies to constantly compare notes to improve information sharing and synergy across the social media.<\/p>\n<p>A blogger, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Japheth_J._Omojuwa\">Japheth Omojuwa<\/a>, who spoke on \u201cDigital Media in Nigeria\u201d, said \u201cone could not deny the great works and achievements of the EFCC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Omojuwa said the EFCC Twitter handle \u201cwas strong\u201d, rating it as the twitter handle of the year 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He further shed light on how the new media could be used to make the job of corruption fight more effective.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201csocial media pages should be domiciled in your website, which is the headquarters of your activities in the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to start creating visual contents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He warned that the commission should be wary of hackers, saying he had noticed that the EFCC had many fake Facebook accounts.<\/p>\n<p>While noting that this could be damaging to the image of the commission, the blogger advised that Facebook should be contacted to block the fake accounts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/laurestar1\">Lauretta Onochie<\/a>, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, urged Nigerians to join the President <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Muhammadu_Buhari\">Muhammadu Buhari<\/a> Administration in tackling the \u201chydra-headed monster called corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorruption has been a hindrance in the wheel of progress of the country. We need to stand up against corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us live as patriots of our nation. I plead with every Nigerian to support the nation and the EFCC in the anti-corruption war.
