{"id":1714,"date":"2017-07-05T13:00:26","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T10:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anticorr.media\/?p=1714"},"modified":"2017-07-19T23:21:24","modified_gmt":"2017-07-19T20:21:24","slug":"meksika-korrupciya-bankrotit-kompanii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorr.media\/en\/meksika-korrupciya-bankrotit-kompanii\/","title":{"rendered":"Corruption in Mexico Drives Local Companies to Budget for Bribery Costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: <a href=\"https:\/\/panampost.com\/elena-toledo\/2017\/07\/04\/corruption-mexico-companies-bribery-costs\/\">Panam Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oecd.org\/gov\/regulatory-policy\/Mexico-regulatory-policy-ireg-2016.pdf\">National Survey of Regulatory Quality and Governmental Impact on Enterprises<\/a> revealed that in 2016 businesses and companies of all sizes in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/panampost.com\/elena-toledo\/2017\/06\/27\/guatemalan-government-mexico-respect-migrants-rights\/\">Mexico<\/a>, paid 1,600 million pesos (USD $80 million) in bribes related to paperwork, requests for public services, and to facilitate regulatory approval from federal, state, or municipal government authorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Adri\u00e1n Franco, <a href=\"https:\/\/unstats.un.org\/sdgs\/files\/meetings\/iaeg-sdgs-meeting-03\/3rd-IAEG-SDGs-List-of-participants-Final-20-4-16.pdf\">Director of Statistics of Government, Security, and Justice of the National Institute of Geographical Statistics and Informatics <\/a>(INEGI): \u201cThe national cost of corruption between government authorities and economic units that carry out paperwork or requests during 2016 is estimated\u00a0at 1.6 million pesos (USD $80 million).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oilandgascouncil.com\/content\/julio-santaellapresident-inegi\">Julio Santaella, president of INEGI<\/a>, said that: \u201cThe economic units interviewed answered that the most frequent acts of corruption include 64.6% who reported payments to expedite procedures, 39.4% reporting payments for fines and penalties, and 30.7%paying bribes to obtain licenses or permits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the study, of the 4.5 million companies operating in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/panampost.com\/elena-toledo\/2017\/06\/26\/illegal-immigrants-in-mexico-are-now-using-uber-to-cross-border-points-undetected\/\">Mexico<\/a>, each spent an average of 12,243 pesos (USD $612.15) to streamline business transactions or receive operating licenses.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of micro enterprises, they invested 9,000 pesos (USD $450), while small businesses reported corruption payments averaging 35,000 pesos (USD $1,750), while medium-sized enterprises allocated 84,806 pesos (USD $4,240. 30) to bribery, and larger companies 48,425 pesos (USD $2,421.25).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c82% of companies report that acts of bribery of government authorities are frequent,\u201d said Adrian Franco, director of Statistics for Government, Security, and Justice of the INEGI.<\/p>\n<p>The states with the greatest perception of corruption include <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tabasco\">Tabasco<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Veracruz\">Veracruz<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/panampost.com\/elena-toledo\/2017\/05\/02\/mexican-authorities-detained-sinaloa-cartels-new-drug-lord\/\">Mexico City<\/a>, while at the local level the most corrupt areas are <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Venustiano_Carranza,_Mexico_City\">Venustiano Carranza<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%C3%81lvaro_Obreg%C3%B3n,_Mexico_City\">\u00c1lvaro Obreg\u00f3n<\/a>, as well as the municipality of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coatzacoalcos\">Coatzacoalcos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On behalf of the federal government, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ildefonso_Guajardo_Villarreal\">Economy Secretary Ildefonso Guajardo<\/a> said: \u201cI am not surprised by the number, because the savings we have had until today as a federal government in regulatory matters is more than 180,000 million pesos (USD $9 billion).
