Peruvian police arrested opposition leader Keiko Fujimori<\/a> in anticipation of the campaign investigation within days after a judge ordered his father to be imprisoned in a separate case.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The court approved her detention for 10 days, a representative of the Peruvian judiciary said, adding that a request for detention in a pre-trial detention centre might be required. She was ordered detained along with 17 other people, including her former campaign Manager Jaime Josiah, Bloomberg reports<\/a>. The solution is based on the investigation of President Fujimori for 2011.<\/p>\n\n\t\t

This decision marks the second high-profile judicial move against the influential Fujimori family within a week. Last Wednesday, the court ordered the imprisonment of former head of state Alberto Fujimori, Keiko’s father. Prosecutors are currently investigating the allegations of Keiko, who was in second place in the last two presidential elections in Peru, received donations from Brazilian construction worker Odebrecht S. for her campaign in 2011.<\/p>\n

Fujimori denied all charges when prosecutors began questioning last year and said they were part of a campaign against her and her Popular forces party at the time. Fujimori was detained when she went to testify before prosecutors in Lima’s center, her lawyer Juliana Loza said that the detention of her client is “arbitrary and offensive,” she said.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors are investigating four ex-presidents of Peru as part of the so-called “car Wash”bribery investigation. Former President Pedro Pablo Kuchinski resigned in March on the eve of the impeachment vote. Before that, he was accused that his company also took money from Odebrecht SA, which paid millions of dollars for bribes in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
