A Chinese court has sentenced former Yunnan Communist Party chairman Qin Guangrong to seven years in prison for bribery. South China Morning Post<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Chengdu Intermediate People’s Court said the former official was granted a reduced sentence for turning himself in, surrendering the bribes he received, pleading guilty and showing repentance.<\/p>\n

The former politician was also sentenced to a fine of 231,000 dollars.<\/p>\n

Qin, 70, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes worth $ 3,7 million between 2000 and 2018, when he held various leadership positions in Yunnan province.<\/p>\n

Qin\u2019s relatively light sentence came in stark contrast with the death sentence handed down earlier this month to Lai Xiaomin, the former chairman of state-run China Huarong Asset Management, for receiving a record $ 278 million in bribes.<\/p>\n

According to Chinese financial news outlet Caixin, Qin gave himself up after his son Qin Ling, the former head of Huarong subsidiary, was investigated following Lai’s arrest in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
