The National Court of Ecuador has sentenced former vice president Jorge Glas to eight years in prison for irregularities in contracting of the Ecuadorian Singue oil field. Sputnik<\/a> news agency reported.<\/p>\n

In addition to Glas, the court has also sentenced two former energy ministers Wilson Pastor and Carlos Rareja Yannuzzelli and four other people to eight years in prison for the crime of embezzlement.<\/p>\n

The court ordered the defendants to pay a $ 5 million fine as damages to the state.<\/p>\n

It is the third trial against Jorge Glas. In 2017, the former vice president was sentenced to six years in a corruption case involving construction companies. He was found guilty of accepting bribes of $ 13.5 million from Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.<\/p>\n

In September 2020, Glas got another eight years’ imprisonment for bribery.<\/p>\n

Jorge Glasa, 51-year-old, served as the vice president under leftist Rafael Correa between 2013 and 2017, and under president Lenin Moreno until he was stripped of his post in 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
