{"id":3627,"date":"2017-08-28T11:29:15","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T08:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anticorr.media\/?p=3627"},"modified":"2017-08-29T15:49:54","modified_gmt":"2017-08-29T12:49:54","slug":"osuzhdyonnyj-na-pyat-let-glava-samsung-podal-apellyaciyu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorr.media\/en\/osuzhdyonnyj-na-pyat-let-glava-samsung-podal-apellyaciyu\/","title":{"rendered":"Samsung heir Lee appeals last week&#8217;s court ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: <a href=\"http:\/\/english.yonhapnews.co.kr\/national\/2017\/08\/28\/0302000000AEN20170828006000315.html\">Yonhap News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Yonhap) &#8212; Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lee_Jae-yong_(businessman)\">Lee Jae-yong<\/a> filed for an appeal Monday, three days after a court sentenced him to five years in jail for bribery, embezzlement and other charges in a corruption case that led to the ouster of former President <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Park_Geun-hye\">Park Geun-hye<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His attorney, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kim_Jong-hoon_(politician)\">Kim Jong-hoon<\/a>, submitted the appeal to the <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.scourt.go.kr\/eng\/judiciary\/organization\/courts3.jsp\">Seoul Central District Court<\/a> against the ruling that dealt a blow to the image of the global electronics giant amid a prolonged leadership vacuum.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the court handed down the verdict, convicting Lee of involvement in Samsung&#8217;s provision of 7.2 billion won (US$6.38 million) in bribes for the equestrian training of the daughter of Park&#8217;s longtime friend and confidante <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Choi_Soon-sil\">Choi Soon-sil<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After the sentencing, Lee&#8217;s attorneys said they cannot accept the verdict, saying they are confident that Lee would be cleared of all charges at an appeals court.<\/p>\n<p>The first hearing for the appeals trial is expected to be held next month, observers said.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors had demanded a 12-year jail term for him on charges of offering or pledging 43.3 billion won of bribes to win the government&#8217;s blessing for a merger of two Samsung units under terms designed to increase his control over the entire Samsung empire so as to cement a power transfer from his ailing father <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lee_Kun-hee\">Lee Kun-hee<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: Yonhap News.
