In exchange, Zhinan received periodic rewards totaling more than 34 million yuan ($5.3 million).<\/p>\n<p>The estimated damage to the state between 2007 and 2017 alone amounted to more than 148 million yuan ($23 million).<\/p>\n<p>The Intermediate People&#8217;s Court of Nanchang in east China&#8217;s Jiangxi province has sentenced Zhinan to 14 years in prison and fined him 3 million yuan ($470,000).<\/p>\n<p>The court reportedly handed down a lenient sentence as Zhinan pleaded guilty to his crimes, showed repentance and surrendered all his illegal gains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A court in China has sentenced Zhang Zhinan, former vice governor of eastern Fujian province, to 14 years in prison for taking bribes and abuse of power.
