The Serious Fraud Office<\/a> has charged a pair of oil executives at services group SBM Offshore<\/a> with fraud as its probe into the Unaoil<\/a> corruption scandal rolls on.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SFO\u2019s latest charges are against Paul Bond<\/a> and Stephen Whiteley<\/a> for conspiracy to make corrupt payments to the controversial Monaco<\/a>-based “middleman” to secure engineering contracts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair will appear before Westminster Magistrates\u2019 Court<\/a> next Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

The SFO said Mr Bond faces two charges of corruption while Mr Whiteley faces one, all of which stem from allegedly corrupt dealings with Unaoil between June 2005 and August 2011.<\/p>\n

Mr Whiteley was formerly a vice president with SBM (Offshore) and Unaoil\u2019s general territories manager for Iraq, Kazakhstan and Angola<\/a>, the SFO added, with\u00a0Mr Bond\u00a0previously a senior sales manager with SBM.<\/p>\n

The charges come just weeks after\u00a0the SFO made its first charges against UK-based Unaoil employees<\/a> Ziad Akle<\/a> and Basil Al Jarah<\/a> for their role in the SBM corruption. Unaoil\u2019s commercial director, Monaco-based Saman Ahsani<\/a>, will also be charged subject to an extradition request to Monaco.<\/p>\n

The SFO began its probe into Unaoil in March 2016 amid allegations that the company had been acting as a “middleman”\u00a0in fixing lucrative service contracts for a fee. The scandal has embroiled a number of companies including Petrofac<\/a>, Aberdeen<\/a>-based Wood Group<\/a> and its takeover target Amec Foster-Wheeler<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A<\/span>\u00a0spokesman for the Dutch services company, SBM,\u00a0declined to comment.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the group\u2019s US arm agreed to pay $238m (\u00a3176m) in criminal penalties for the role SBM played bribing foreign officials in Brazil, Angola, Equatorial Guinea<\/a>, Kazakhstan and Iraq.<\/p>\n

The group admitted to paying more than $180m in commissions to intermediaries, knowing that some of the money would go toward bribing foreign officials so SBM could obtain or retain business with the government-owned oil companies.<\/p>\n
