International Anti-corruption Day<\/strong><\/a> on 9 December aims to stem the scourge of corruption through awareness raising. To join the celebration of doing business with integrity, ICC<\/a> has launched a comprehensive Business Integrity Compendium<\/a> to reinforce responsible business conduct around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Compendium<\/a>\u00a0is a free, one-stop-shop for anti-corruption and supply chain due diligence tools which aim to reinforce the capacity of companies both large and small to tackle corruption.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Corruption continues to blight the global economy and is estimated to divert more than 5% of global GDP on an annual basis \u2013 yet it often goes unnoticed. Through integration of strategic compliance programmes that contribute to a culture of integrity across company departments, locations and sectors, business continues to play a vital role in tackling corruption in all forms.<\/p>\n

From trainings on compliance and negotiation techniques to anti-corruption e-learning platforms and more, ICC\u2019s global network of national committees has kept busy raising awareness of the practical tools that make up the compendium.<\/p>\n

We bring you a round up of ICC events and activities that aim to advance best practices on anti-corruption and business integrity:<\/p>\n

Argentina<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As ministers from all over the world head to Buenos Aires for the World Trade Organization<\/a> (WTO<\/a>)\u2019s 11th\u00a0<\/sup>Ministerial Conference<\/a> (MC<\/a>11),\u00a0ICC Argentina<\/a>\u00a0will meet with the\u00a0Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation<\/a>\u2013 an initiative by ICC, the World Economic Forum<\/a> (WEF<\/a>) and the Center for International Private Enterprise<\/a> (CIPE<\/a>) \u2013 \u00a0to discuss how the WTO\u2019s Trade Facilitation Agreement<\/a> (TFA<\/a>) can help fight corruption through customs automation.<\/p>\n

Austria<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Recognising the importance of training youth on anti-corruption practices, ICC Austria has hosted several lectures at universities in Vienna on international negotiations techniques in the last couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

ICC Austria also partners with institutions in Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey and China to host seminars on compliance programmes, money laundering and the role of antitrust law in enforcing anti-corruption tools.<\/p>\n

Belgium<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Small businesses often lack the capacity and financing to afford robust compliance programmes, something ICC Belgium is seeking to address today at its event\u00a0Supporting SMEs Against Corruption<\/a>\u00a0to be inaugurated by Denis Ducarme<\/a>, Belgian Minister of Middle Classes, Self-employed, SMEs, Agriculture and Social Integration<\/a>, and featuring Kris Peeters<\/a>, Belgian Vice Prime Minister for Employment, Economy, and Consumers<\/a>. Other speakers include representatives from the UN<\/a>, the OECD<\/a>, the European Parliament<\/a> and the European Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, ICC Belgium will also launch a new informative brochure for small business, prepared for the Belgian Ministry of Economy<\/a> entitled “A trustworthy SME rejects corruption: Why? How?”.<\/p>\n

Brazil<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On 4 December,\u00a0ICC Brazil launched its Commission<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Corporate Responsibility and Anti-corruption<\/a>. To mark the launch, 12 CEOs of multinational companies including Siemens<\/a>, Natura<\/a>, SAP<\/a> and 3M<\/a>, gathered for an honest discussion on how the private sector can help rebuild Brazilian credibility.<\/p>\n

Colombia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

ICC Colombia<\/a>\u00a0and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime<\/a> (UNODC<\/a>) are hosting a forum to review progress from their partnership campaign, which promotes a culture of integrity based on international legal frameworks.<\/p>\n

Costa Rica<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

On the eve of Anti-Corruption Day, ICC Costa Rica hosted a conference with high-level representatives from the national prosecutor\u2019s office, alongside Michael D. Padula<\/a> of Carlton Fields Miami & Washington<\/a>, and Sara M. Holzschuh<\/a> of Dentons US<\/a>. Tackling issues related to gift and hospitality, corruption and entertainment, the conference also looked at proactive strategies to avoid \u2018finding yourself in the hot seat\u2019. Croatia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Addressing the intersections between corporate compliance and the latest trends in non-financial reporting,\u00a0ICC Croatia is hosting a conference today<\/a>\u00a0in Zagreb<\/a>. On the theme \u201cStrengthening the Integrity of Croatian Companies in Fighting Corruption \u2013 Challenges of Corporate Compliance\u201c, the event takes place in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Economy<\/a> and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the conference alongside high-level officials from the Croatian Ministry of Justice, Luka Burilovic<\/a>, Chair of ICC Croatia, will announce plans to roll out compliance trainings on the ICC Business Integrity Compendium in the Adriatic<\/a> region, in collaboration with other ICC national committees.<\/p>\n

France<\/strong><\/h3>\n

ICC France is helping companies adapt to strengthened legal frameworks on anti-corruption under the \u2018Loi Sapin II<\/a>\u2019 (Sapin law II<\/a>), investigating in particular the new law\u2019s implications for small and big businesses operating abroad. Following a training on 23 November the next training, another\u00a0training<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 providing attendees with a certificate upon completion \u2013 will take place on 19 December.<\/p>\n

Iran<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In celebration of a recent agreement between the Tehran Chamber of Commerce<\/a> and a local university to launch a private-sector self-assessment tool on anti-corruption efforts,\u00a0ICC Iran<\/a>\u00a0will join representatives from the Iranian government, NGOs and the private sector at the chamber, on 9 December, to explore how technology can boost implementation of the anti-corruption tool beyond Tehran.<\/p>\n

Netherlands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Building on a successful introduction of \u2018Integrity Week<\/a>\u2019 in 2016, ICC Netherlands is branching out its week-long outreach campaign and\u00a0Integrity and Anti-corruption Conference<\/a>\u00a0for international participation.<\/p>\n

More than 200 participants are gathered in the Peace Palace<\/a> in The Hague<\/a> today, to gain insight from speakers including\u00a0Richard Bistrong<\/a>, a formerly prosecuted sales and marketing executive, Jan Hommen<\/a>, former CEO of both KPMG<\/a> and ING Bank<\/a>,\u00a0Emily O\u2019Reilly<\/a>, European Ombudsman<\/a>, and\u00a0Roel Nieuwenkamp<\/a>, Chairman of the OECD Working group on Corporate Social Responsibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Panama<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Panama Chamber of Commerce<\/a> is set to host a breakfast meeting, \u201cAll United Against Corruption\u201d, on 12 December.\u00a0ICC Panama<\/a>\u00a0will actively participate in the multistakeholder discussions which aim to propose concrete mechanisms for the public and the private sector on how to contribute effectively to the fight against corruption.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sweden<\/strong><\/h3>\n

On 9 November,\u00a0 one month ahead of Anti-corruption Day, ICC Sweden held a seminar on \u201cResponsible business and anti-corruption<\/a>\u201d. Vinge law firm<\/a>, which recently translated ICC\u2019s Anti-corruption due diligence guide for third parties, highlighted the importance of rolling out anti-corruption programmes for all employees. The seminar also explored how e-learning platforms can help employees act with integrity.<\/p>\n

United Kingdom<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In support of ICC Netherland\u2019s \u201cIntegrity Week\u201d,\u00a0ICC United Kingdom<\/a>\u00a0is leveraging social media efforts to raise awareness and support the digital outreach throughout the week of 4 December.<\/p>\n

ICC\u2019s work on Corporate Responsibility and Anti-corruption<\/strong><\/h3>\n

ICC has been a pioneer in the business fight against corruption, issuing in 1977 its first version of the ICC Rules of Conduct to Combat Extortion and Bribery<\/a>. Since then, ICC\u2019s leadership on corporate responsibility and anti-corruption has included developing a robust suite of\u00a0business ethics tools.<\/p>\n

This year, ICC played an active role as network partner in the B20<\/a> responsible business conduct and anti-corruption working group. The commission also hosted meetings in Mexico City<\/a> on 8 March, ahead of ICC Mexico\u2019s Latin-American Anti-corruption Congress<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ICC Publications<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The\u00a0ICC Ethics and Compliance Training Handbook<\/a>\u00a0sets out the challenges which large, medium-sized and small companies have to overcome as they build and put into action their corporate compliance programme.<\/p>\n
