{"id":7524,"date":"2017-12-26T17:53:30","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T14:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anticorr.media\/?p=7524"},"modified":"2017-12-28T10:55:52","modified_gmt":"2017-12-28T07:55:52","slug":"smi-te-kogo-saudovskie-vlasti-ne-otpustyat-v-blizhajshee-vremya-predstanut-pered-sudom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorr.media\/en\/smi-te-kogo-saudovskie-vlasti-ne-otpustyat-v-blizhajshee-vremya-predstanut-pered-sudom\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi Arabia releases corruption detainees, others to stand trial: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-saudi-corruption\/saudi-arabia-releases-corruption-detainees-others-to-stand-trial-report-idUSKBN1EK0NR\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RIYADH (Reuters) &#8211; Saudi Arabia has released 23 of the 200-or-so powerful individuals detained since November on corruption charges after they reached deals with the government, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Okaz\">Okaz<\/a> newspaper reported on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The report did not name those involved in what appeared to be the first large-scale release since the royals, business people and government officials were detained in a crackdown spearheaded by Crown Prince <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mohammad_bin_Salman\">Mohammed bin Salman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects have been held at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Riyadh\">Riyadh<\/a>\u2019s luxurious <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Ritz-Carlton_Hotel_Company\">Ritz Carlton<\/a> hotel since early November and told to hand over assets and cash in exchange for their freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Okaz said more detainees would be released in the coming days and trial proceedings would begin soon for those who continue to deny the charges against them.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi authorities see the settlements not as blackmail but as an obligation to reimburse money taken illegally from the world\u2019s top oil producer over several decades.<\/p>\n<p>Video posted on social media showed a smiling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mashpedia.com\/Saoud_al-Daweesh?pagetype=search&amp;tab=1&amp;pagecode=&amp;xn=1\">Saoud al-Daweesh<\/a>, the former chief executive of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saudi_Telecom_Company\">Saudi Telecom<\/a>, telling well-wishers he had been treated decently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrivate Affairs (a unit of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Legal_system_of_Saudi_Arabia\">Royal Court<\/a>) brought us a full lamb dish day and night.
