{"id":8517,"date":"2018-02-07T11:32:52","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T08:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/anticorr.media\/?p=8517"},"modified":"2018-02-12T11:11:18","modified_gmt":"2018-02-12T08:11:18","slug":"vlasti-filippin-arestovali-desyatki-kitajcev-i-tajvancev-po-podozreniyu-v-moshennichestve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorr.media\/en\/vlasti-filippin-arestovali-desyatki-kitajcev-i-tajvancev-po-podozreniyu-v-moshennichestve\/","title":{"rendered":"Philippines arrests Chinese, Taiwanese nationals in telecoms fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-philippines-china\/philippines-arrests-chinese-taiwanese-nationals-in-telecoms-fraud-idUSKBN1F20J7\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MANILA (Reuters) &#8211; Dozens of Chinese and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Taiwan\">Taiwanese<\/a> nationals have been arrested in the Philippines on suspicion of extortion of money from people in China via a telecoms scam, police said on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Philippine police apprehended the suspects involved in voice phishing operations in two separate raids, one in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Vicente,_Ilocos_Sur\">San Vicente<\/a> town in the northern province of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ilocos_Sur\">Ilocos Sur<\/a> and another in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Las_Pi%C3%B1as\">Las Pinas<\/a> in the Philippine capital <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manila\">Manila<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Philippine TV station <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ABS-CBN\">ABS-CBN<\/a> reported that as many as 153 people were arrested, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-philippines-china\/philippines-arrests-chinese-taiwanese-nationals-in-telecoms-fraud-idUSKBN1F20J7\">Reuters<\/a> could not immediately confirm this number.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects were posing as policemen, prosecutors or judges, and telling their victims they were involved in some irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victims are told they are facing charges or being investigated, that their cellphone number is involved,\u201d Senior Inspector Artemio Cinco Jr., spokesman of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philippine_National_Police\">Philippine National Police<\/a> anti-cybercrime group, told ABS-CBN.<\/p>\n<p>The victims were asked to transfer money to the fraudsters\u2019 bank accounts in order to avoid questioning, he said.<\/p>\n<p>ABS-CBN showed footages of the raid in Ilocos Sur where improvised phone booths were found, and the arrests.<\/p>\n<p>Similar operations have been uncovered in recent years in the Philippines and elsewhere, including <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cambodia\">Cambodia<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indonesia\">Indonesia<\/a>, leading to the arrest of thousands of suspects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This material belongs to: Reuters.
