Representation of former SUNY Poly Tech President Alaine Kaloyeros is looking to dismiss the bid-rigging corruption case against his client connected to the Buffalo Billion. Marlee Tuskes reports.
The defense in the Buffalo Billion case are looking to get the charges against their clients dropped. The lawyer of Alaine Kaloyeros was involved in a letter-writing campaign along with the other defendants seeking to have the case dismissed. In a letter sent to U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni last week, the lawyers called the bid-rigging allegations meager and speculative.
One letter stated the request-for-proposals had no guarantee for specific work for each developer, and pointed to a similar case that was overturned in early august due to insufficient evidence. Acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim called the defense lawyer’s attempts to dismiss the trial misplaced and that they were using arguments based off of cases unrelated to theirs.
Caproni recently split the Buffalo Billion investigation into two cases. The case involving Kaloyeros is set for jury selection in June of 2018.
Last Tuesday, Kaloyeros’ lawyer responded to Kim’s letter, stating the judge should dismiss the case now in order to avoid a costly trial. Reporting in Marcy, I’m Marlee Tuskes, Eye Witness News.
