Former Deputy Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Vasyl Lozynskyi has become the subject of a new criminal corruption case, according to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
According to the agency, the former official is accused of inciting an official of a state-owned enterprise to abuse his official position. Although the suspect has not been officially named, Ukrainian media outlets report that the individual in question is Lozynskyi.
Investigators allege that in 2022, during the procurement of equipment intended to provide the population with alternative sources of electricity, heating and water supply, the formal official persuaded the deputy director of a state-owned enterprise to sign a contract to a price approximately 30% above market value. The enterprise representative has also been charged with abuse of official authority.
Lozynskyi served as Deputy Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine from May 2020 or November 2022. Following the reorganization of the ministry, he continued his work within the Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development, but was dismissed in early 2023 after the first corruption allegations emerged.
Earlier, in 2023, the former official was detained on suspicion of receiving $400,000 in exchange for facilities contracts for the supply of equipment at inflated prices. According to investigators, he played a role in implementing a corruption scheme involving public procurement. If convicted on the charges brought against him, he could face a lengthy prison sentence and confiscation of assets.
Corruption in Ukraine remains a recurring subject of public debate and scrutiny from the country’s international partners, which have repeatedly called on Kyiv to strengthen oversight of budget spending and increase transparency in government procurement.
