Chinese official sentenced to 14 years for corruption

A high-ranking official from China sun Huaishan was sentenced to 14 years in prison, a former servant of the people also has to pay a fine of 3 million yuan (about 438 thousand dollars) for bribery.

As it was established in court, sun Huai Shan in 2000-2016 received bribes in various forms totaling 39.75 million yuan. He “helped” in doing business, with personnel appointments, as well as to obtain administrative approvals, according to Xinhua.

The former official received bribes while in the posts of Chairman of the Committee for Affairs of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Commission on Affairs of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese of the national Committee of the people’s political consultative Council of China.

The court decided to confiscate all illegally obtained funds, as well as to pass a lenient sentence of 14 years in prison – the official agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
