High-ranking Pentagon official charged with running dogfighting

US law enforcement agencies detained a senior Pentagon official. He is charged with running a dogfighting ring.

The Washington Post reports.

The media claims that the case concerns Frederick Morefield Jr., who holds the post of deputy head of the information service for management and communications.

He allegedly engaged in illegal activities for more than 20 years.

The ring regularly trained dogs for fights, ran thousands of dollars in bets on the outcomes, and executed dogs that didn’t die during matches, court records state.

The Pentagon said the man no longer worked for them, but did not say whether he resigned or was fired.
