Britain paid $200 million for unusable masks

According to the non-profit organization, about 50 million masks purchased by the UK under a $326 million contract will not be used by the National Health Service due to concerns about defects. Since masks use ear loops rather than head loops, they are considered ineffective because they may not fit snugly, OCCRP reports.

The Good Law Project, along with another NGO, EveryDoctor , asked the court to review the contract between the British government and provider Ayanda Capital Limited, which they described as a “family office” owned by a tax haven in Mauritius.”

The company is linked to Liz Truss, the British Secretary of state for international trade and a prominent member of the Conservative party. This prompted labor to request more details about the purchase.

In a letter to Truss, shadow international trade Minister bill Esterson asked for more information about the deal, which he said was conducted by Truss adviser Andrew mills.

The Good Law project estimated that the government paid between $ 204 million and $ 231 million for unusable masks.

The NGO said they were deep into the contract, and “the more we scratch the surface of the PPE fiasco, the more shocking details come to light.”

These days, however, government contracts for supporters of the ruling party seem to be nothing new for the UK. The Sunday times recently reported that several major contracts have been signed with major donors and allies.

Among them are seven Moeller design contracts worth about $ 84 million, run by David Moeller, who has donated thousands to Tory campaigns.

Another company, P14 medical, run by conservative city Councilman Steve Dechan, received a $ 156 million contract to make protective masks, while Clipper Logistics, founded by conservative party donor Steve Parkin, received $ 1.6 million.

Early anticorr.media reported that the Libyan Audit Bureau said that the funds directed to combat the outbreak of the Corona epidemic in Libya went into the pockets of officials affiliated with the Government of National Accord, and demanded the arrest of all those involved in the theft and embezzlement.
