Former Ukrainian general detained in Poland on suspicion of attempting to bribe an official

Former senior Ukrainian law enforcement official, retired Colonel General Vladimir B., has been detained in Poland. He is suspected of attempting to bribe a public official in Warsaw.

This was reposted by TVP World, citing Przemysław Nowak, a spokesperson for Poland’s National Prosecutors office.

According to investigators, the 62-year-old man offered a financial reward to an official in early June. Polish law enforcement authorities have not disclosed the amount of the alleged bride.

The court ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. At present, he is the sole suspect in the criminal case.

A spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office emphasized that the investigation concerns only the alleged attempt to bribe a public official and is not related to accusations of espionage, sabotage activities or crimes against state security.

Earlier, Ukrainian media reported the detention of a former general in Poland and put forward various theories regarding the reason behind it. However, the Polish authorities have officially denied any connection between the case and such claims.

Polish law enforcement agencies have not disclosed the detainee’s full name. Nevertheless, several Ukrainian media outlets, based on the suspects age, rank and biological details, have suggested that he may be Vladimir Bedrikovsky — former First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and former head of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigation is ongoing.
