Taiwan mayor indicted for corruption

The mayor of Hsinchu, Taiwan, Kao Hung-an, has been charged with corruption and forgery. The mayor is suspected of wage fraud and misappropriation of public funds when she was a member of the Legislative Yuan (unicameral legislature) from 2020 to 2022.

The investigation lasted eight months. Investigators believe that 39-year-old Kao Hung-an earned NT$460,000 (more than $14,000) by dishonest means.

Kao Hung-an remains in office until the court verdict.

The head of Hsinchu denies the allegations.
