Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has stepped down after prosecutors launched a corruption investigation against him.
Kurz is suspected of bribery and breach of trust.
Kurz has stressed that his resignation does not constitute an admission of guilt. He plans to stay on as his party’s leader and become its top lawmaker in parliament.
Earlier, Austrian prosecutors said they were investigating Kurz. During the investigation, searches were carried out, including in two ministries. Other officials from Austria came under suspicion.
The raids also took place in the office of the ruling People’s Party, led by Kurz.
