Trump and his children ordered to testify in business fraud case

A New York court has ordered former US President Donald Trump, his son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka to answer under oath about the activities of their family company.

Reuters reports.

State Attorney Letitia James, who is investigating possible financial fraud by the Trump Organization, asked the court to summon the Trump family for questioning. The attorney’s office believes that the company may have inflated real estate values to obtain bank loans and reduce taxes.

Trump’s lawyers accused James of doing an end run around their clients’ constitutional rights by seeking testimony she could them use against them in a parallel criminal probe.

The criminal probe is being led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Last July, prosecutors charged the Trump Organization with tax fraud.

Trump said he considers the investigation against him a political “witch hunt.”
